Further Poster Development
After talking with Lee today I came to the conclusion that my poster was lacking what it needed to convey my message of growth effectively. I needed to have a re-think about how I could more clearly convey this idea and this meant coming up with a new visual element. So I went back to the drawing board and came up with the Fair Trade Coffee Tree. I think the new element more clearly gets across my idea of growth and brings a fresh new look to my poster. I think I might experiment a bit with incorporating some new colours into my design for my final poster and also adding a new element or texture that I can use throughout this project to tie all of the touch points together.

Poster Concept Development
After my initial thumbnail drawings, I began developing them using digital components. I tried to use a wide range of design mediums including hand drawn elements, vector imagery, and
photographic imagery.
I also tried a range of 'slogans' to see what kind of language would be most effective in conveying the message behind fair trade. I started with 'A balanced economy for a balanced world', which I thought conveyed the message I was trying to send pretty well. As I progressed I realised a shorter, snappier headline would work better for my posters. I ended up settling on 'Fair Work. Fair Pay' for the majority of the posters.

Colour Research
After I had done my initial poster thumbnails, I started to look at colour schemes that would work well with my subject matter. I had a look at websites and images associated with fair trade and coffee and came back with some interesting results.
My research showed that fair trade is very often associated with the earth and 'earthy' tones like greens, browns, blues. I also found that coffee is often associated with very similar colours browns, beiges etc, so I put together a spread of earthy colours that I will use for my posters and overall project colour scheme.

Mood Boards
Today I started putting together mood boards for my project to try to hone in on what kind of imagery, styles, themes I wanted to convey through my design. I broke the mood boards down into three sections - Section A was simply the location and objects that are associated with coffee - Section B was more focussed on the themes of my project e.g. fair trade, community, sustainability etc - Finally, Section C was about finding design styles and textures that I felt expressed the previous sections in a way that I found appealing.

Fair Trade Research
Today in class we went through a really informative exercise where we broke down our topic into main focus points and brainstormed words that we associated with fair trade and each focus point. We then strung together narratives by combining random words from each section to try to open our minds up to the potential rhetorical solutions we could put together for this project.
